Day 1 on the New Job!
I'm in my hotel room, on the ground floor of the Marriott, with a patio overlooking the pond. The door is open and the crickets are chirping, and the ducks quacking. It is a very typical fall New England evening.
Arrived at Boston before 8 on my 605 am flight from Harribsurg. I had my alarm set for 4, but woke up at 358. Zach drove me to the airport; it was pretty deserted.
I had a great weekend in PA - great to see everyone. Wish we lived closer. I'll have to go back soon.
Took a cab from Logan to Waltham. The city is a mess with the new "big dig" tunnel closed. Luckily it was a holiday so the traffic wasn't bad, but it must be horrible during the work week. What a mess.
The cabbie got lost, but it wasn't his fault. Open Pages' office is hard to find.
I arrived before 9 and sat in the waiting room with 2 other new hires - Jaime (another pre-sales consultant, from Atlanta), and Ling (in support, from Japan). We went through HR orientation (toms of forms), then some sales training stuff, which was interesting. It was fun meeting everyone new. The seem so nice, and everything just seems so calm and professional - nothing like Vastera ever was.
It is weird not having a boss, though. Adam, who was Casie's boss, stopped by just before I left ot say hi and said he wanted to get together for an hour or so this week. That was nice - I really like him too, but the thing that is bothering me is what are the next few weeks going to be like. Once I leave here, how am I going to be trained to do my job?
I know I just have to take one day at a time.
But, the important thing is "I DID IT!" I left a miserable job and took the plunge into the unknown. If it doesn't work out, there are always other jobs, but here's hoping that this one lasts for a while and I'm happy......and I make some money!
Time for dinner and then an early bed time.
